Our Story

Laura and her husband Dom live in York with their three young boys. Laura has spent more than 14 years teaching across Early Years and Key Stage One, and has always had a real passion for the early years and the huge part they play in shaping a child’s confidence, curiosity and love of learning.

When they first discovered The Wendy House, they were immediately drawn to its small, family feel. They could see the potential to create a nursery where children could feel truly at home — somewhere warm, calm and familiar, where every child is known as an individual and given the space and encouragement to grow.

Nest is influenced by Scandinavian and Montessori ideas that Laura and Dom also value in family life: simple and inviting spaces, plenty of purposeful play, encouraging independence and following children’s natural interests and curiosity.

Laura is closely involved in nursery life day to day, while Dom supports the wider running and development of Nest. Together, they want to create the kind of nursery they would choose for their own children — a place where children feel safe, happy and completely themselves.
