Vision & Values

Our Vision

At Nest, we create a calm, nurturing environment where children feel deeply known, valued and secure.

Our approach is thoughtful, child-led and rooted in strong relationships, meaningful play and a love of language and stories.

Our vision is built around three core principles:

Play

At Nest, we believe children learn best through play that is open-ended, purposeful and led by their own curiosity.

Rather than relying on prescribed activities with fixed outcomes, we create flexible spaces and provide carefully chosen resources that allow children to explore, imagine, create and problem-solve in their own way.

Each month, we also choose a high-quality storybook to act as a gentle starting point for learning across the nursery. The story may inspire conversations, role play, creative work, outdoor exploration or new interests, but we follow the children’s cues rather than expecting everyone to complete the same activity.

This gives children the freedom to explore ideas in ways that are meaningful to them.

Grow

Every child is unique, with their own interests, personality and way of making sense of the world.

We spend time observing, listening and noticing what captures each child’s attention, then use this to support their development and introduce new ideas at the right moment.

Stories and language play an important part in this. Through our monthly story focus, everyday conversations, songs, rhyme and repetition, we introduce children to rich new vocabulary and help them develop confidence in communicating their thoughts and ideas.

Our aim is not simply to prepare children for the next stage, but to help them become curious, confident learners who enjoy discovering new things.

Belong

Strong relationships sit at the heart of everything we do at Nest.

As a small, homely nursery, we offer a warm family feel where children, parents and staff can build close, trusting relationships. Children feel safe, understood and confident because they are genuinely known by the adults who care for them.

We want books, stories and shared experiences to become part of nursery life too – moments that bring children together, encourage conversation and create happy memories.

Our Values

These values guide how our vision is lived out every day at Nest.

Safe, Secure and Well Cared For

Children’s safety and wellbeing come first. We provide a calm, secure and nurturing environment with high standards of care, supervision and safeguarding, so children feel safe enough to explore, play and learn.

Respect and Belonging

We celebrate diversity and promote inclusion, kindness and fairness.

At Nest, we actively promote British values – democracy, individual liberty, the rule of law, and mutual respect and tolerance – through everyday nursery life and within our inclusive early childhood curriculum.

We do this in ways that are meaningful and age-appropriate, such as encouraging children to make choices, listen to others, understand simple boundaries, take turns, share ideas and appreciate the different families, cultures and experiences within our community.

Resilience, Curiosity and Independence

We encourage children to investigate, make choices, solve problems and have a go for themselves. By following their interests and giving them opportunities for safe challenges, we help them build confidence, perseverance and independence.

Language, Stories and a Love of Books

We want books to be woven into everyday life at Nest.

Our monthly storybook provides a shared thread for learning, but never a prescribed set of activities. Instead, we use stories to spark curiosity and then follow where the children take us.

Through rich vocabulary, rhyme, repetition, songs and plenty of shared reading, we support children’s communication and language while helping them develop something just as important — a genuine enjoyment of books and stories.

Joy in Learning

Above all, we want children to be happy, motivated and confident learners.

Learning at Nest should feel exciting and natural — found in play, conversations, friendships, stories, outdoor adventures and the countless little moments of discovery that happen throughout the day.
